We’re passionate about the old Standish Hospital site and are working with the NHS to create the framework to turn the site into a community health facility, which will deliver health and social care for the elderly and a range of services for local people of all ages. The site aims to reduce hospital admissions by providing constant access to care and support for those with sensory impairments, dementia and other disabilities, helping them to live as independently as possible. The site will also look to include a range of additional facilities including a day centre offering services to the wider public such as cardiac and stroke rehabilitation, physiotherapy and memory assessment.
The site was left to us, the community and we are delighted that the cabinet at Gloucestershire County Council recently decided to help develop the scheme by going into partnership with NHS Gloucestershire and preparing the specification to attract partner organisations to build the facility.
Residents should and can have involvement in developing the project and we pledge to facilitate the provision of some of the services at the finished campus.
The next step
Now that NHS Gloucestershire has full support of GCC, SDC and effective links to the community, the job of appointing a provider to complete the work can start and will be put out to tender in the coming months. To help the community influence the contract we are running a workshop for the group to collate all the views on Thursday 6th August at Standish Village Hall.
Please spread the word about this group and new blog so we can build support together and make our voice heard. Add your comments to each article or feed us with stories to blog about here!

Meeting
*Important*
New Standish Community Group workshop on Thursday 6th August at 2pm in Standish Village Hall. Members of the group will attend the workshop and we aim to use this opportunity to ensure community needs, concerns and aspirations are aired and debated so we can include them in the report to be sent to the Gloucestershire NHS. This report will then be used as part of the trust’s briefing pack which will be sent to potential bidders for the Standish site and the health facilities provided on it.
